Emotions, like thoughts, are energy and the electrical energy of thoughts combines with the magnetic energy of emotions to create memories, patterns, beliefs and states of being. There is also a neurochemical relationship between the brain and body. As you think certain thoughts, the brain produces chemicals that cause you to feel exactly the way you were thinking. Once you feel the way you think, you begin to think the way you feel, creating a feedback loop called a “state of being”. Depending on the length of time that loop operates, an experience creates an emotional reaction, which then can turn into a mood, then into a temperament, and finally, given time, into a personality trait.
We, as ego personalities, memorize our emotional reactions. My reality today has been created by thoughts and feelings and the beliefs and perceptions that they synced with in the past. Every time I have a thought, I release a chemical that turns on neural pathways in my brain which give me feelings from the past to match my thinking. I can turn on a stress response in my body by thought alone and these chemicals produced in my body are highly addictive – they become familiar and comforting, if not comfortable. Over time, these neural pathways connecting thoughts and feelings have established who I am. Over time, these neural pathways go from a conscious awareness into the realm of the unconscious.
Science is telling us the human brain is a reality-producing machine…all it knows is the past and it will keep re-creating the old reality of your past until that is interrupted and new programming for your new reality is brought in. Very similar to being directed by a computer that can only recreate from the past… Notifications abound: it’s 6:00, time to eat; Jane is calling, you don’t like her; I don’t agree with what she is saying; My church says you can’t trust the other religions; you must do it this way because the that’s the way we’ve always done it; Be careful: They are all violent and full of hate.
It is time to shift our understanding of our world, our universe, from the old Newtonian model of Survival which thinks of “cause and effect” to a new quantum model of Creation which knows we can “cause an effect”. We are creators, in alignment with our religious tradition and other belief systems we hold dear. What are you creating today? I have recorded a meditation specifically for rewiring your brain to get you started.
What I offer here is but one of many new possibilities and potentials that could radically shift how we, as humans, live in our world; we are able to change our perception of reality. Yes, we need to be wise rather than wildly accept anything and everything, but are we willing to explore the possibilities with an open mind and heart?
